In the Kitchen for Hair Care

Been too busy to stock up on beauty supplies lately? These hair treatments can be mixed up at home as long as you have been able to make it to the market this week.

Honey-Banana Smoothie

For An Intensive Once A Week Treatment, you will need:

  • 1/8 teaspoon of lecithin
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
Direction
  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender
  2. Whip until smooth like a smoothie
  3. Resist the temptation to drink the mixture
  4. Dampen your hair thoroughly
  5. Work the mixture through your hair using downward strokes (use an old hair brush or comb to - be sure to reach each strand of hair)
  6. Wrap an old towel around you neck to catch the drips
  7. Leave the treatment on for 45 minutes.
  8. Sit back, relax, have a cup of tea and read the paper
  9. Rinse out. Shampoo as usual.
  10. If your hair is in need of extra moisturizing; put the mixture on your hair an hour before bedtime so it has time to dry. Put an old towel on your pillow and sleep with the mixture in overnight.
  11. Rinse out. Shampoo as usual.
Use the mixture right away. Do not store.

Creamy Orange Conditioner

For an Intensive Treatment You Can Use Everyday, you will need:
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon brewers yeast
  • 1/2 cup of low or nonfat milk
  • 1/2 peeled orange
  • 1/4 large banana or 1/2 of a small banana
Direction

  1. Whip up all the ingredients in a blender
  2. Take the mixture into the shower with you
  3. Dampen hair thoroughly
  4. Pour mixture over damp hair
  5. Let soak in for 5 minutes
  6. Rinse and shampoo as usual.
  7. For a more intensive treatment, leave the mixture on for half an hour (you could relax in a warm bubble bath whilst your hair is being treated)
  8. Mixture lasts up to 24 hours in the refrigerator

Note: Some people have extra sensitive skin or are allergic to even the most natural of ingredients. If you fall into these categories or have any doubts about what you should and shouldn't use on your skin, be sure to check with your dermatologist before using any new mixture or product on your skin.
