What are the different types of fragrances?

Q: What are the different types of fragrances?

Answer: Most fragrances can be placed into groups based on the ingredients that make up the scent:
  • FLORALS contain ingredients like jasmine, lily and white flowers.
  • ALDEHYDE/SPARKLING FLORALS contain synthetic chemicals which give florals a "lift."
  • CITRUS/FRUITY/FLORALS have ingredients like peach, citrus or berry coupled with florals.
  • FLORAL MUSKS contain clean and fresh synthetic musk.
  • FLORIENTALS OR SEMI-ORIENTAL are complex florals with fruit and amber.
  • CHYPRES (she'pre)/FLORAL OAKMOSS are warm, mossy and floral.
  • ORIENTALS contain precious woods with florals, hints of spice and sweet warm notes.
Q: What is Perfume?

Answer: Perfume (eau de parfum) is the purest expression of fragrance. It has the highest concentration of perfume oils in an alcohol base. It is applied to "pulse" points. It is the most expensive form of fragrance you can buy.

Q: What is eau de toilette?

Answer: Eau de toilette has the next highest concentration to perfume and is still quite intense.

Q: What is cologne?
