A few light strokes of acrylic may help cure men of their nail-biting habit.
"Nail biting is a subconscious habit for most people," explains Deborah Springham, owner of Canadian Nail Source in Edmonton, Alberta. "It's not until they have extensions or acrylic on their nails, then bite down on the plastic, that they realize how often they actually put their hands in their mouths."
Quite often, nail-biters have bitten down to the quick. In severe cases, the natural nails yield a scant six millimetres. Since few men would wear full nail extensions, Springham suggests giving them pseudo nail plates by brushing pink acrylic across the exposed skin, filing into shape, then adding a smile line at the free edge in white acrylic.
"Nails should be filled every two to three weeks, especially if he's trying to kick the habit," Springham explains.
